Making Your Goals Your Reality: Building Momentum through Clarity
Let’s make something clear, shall we?! Your Life, perhaps!! This article, based on a recent podcast episode, will help you gain clarity on what you truly want in life. Many people say they know what they want in life, and then they keep bouncing around from one thing to another, why? If you know what you want, why bounce around? When you truly get clear on what it is that you want to experience in life - then and only then can you set out to achieve it. But…you have to get clear first. Most often, the reason you aren’t clear or keep overthinking what you want is that you simply do not believe you can achieve it. So you go after the money because money solves a lot of issues. Money is great. But even when you make the money, you may feel a sense of emptiness. The only way you will ever experience the life you want to experience in all its richness and glory is to get clear on what you want. I know it sounds simple, it’s a game-changer—and it's a journey, one I've been through myself.
For a long time, my goals were just that: goals. They were concrete, measurable, and often monetary. And while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with striving for financial success or achieving specific milestones, I realized something profound. While I was hitting these targets, I still felt a sense of vagueness about what I truly wanted my life to look like. And I know many of you feel the same.
We often set our goals based on what we think we can get and what seems “realistic”. So, we stifle our deeper desires, often unconsciously, because we don’t believe they’re possible. That was a hard pill for me to swallow. The lack of clarity was not because I didn’t know what I wanted, but because I didn’t believe that my true desires were within reach. This is where the magic begins, friends—acknowledging that you can shift these mental blocks.
Think back to when you were a child. Do you remember how fiercely you wanted to learn, to achieve, to get up and try walking again and again until you could finally do it? That’s pure, unfiltered ambition fueled by a profound desire to succeed, without any preconceived notions of failure. That’s the kind of drive we need to tap into.
For me, the revelation came when I realized that lack of clarity stems from self-doubt. It's a silent killer of dreams. I had to let go of the “how” and focus on the “what” and the “why.” Asking myself, what do I truly want? And more importantly, why do I want it? These questions opened a whole new field of possibility for me.
Allow me to illustrate this with a personal example. I imagined having a retreat up in the mountains—a place for skiing, relaxation, and family moments. Sounds dreamy, right? But instead of just wishing for it vaguely, I let myself dive into the specifics. Where would it be? What would it feel like? Can I see myself there? The more I envisioned it, the more real it became. I shifted my mindset from "Is it possible?" to "How incredible will it feel when it happens?"
And guess what? By opening my mind to these possibilities, I started noticing opportunities I hadn't seen before—synchronicities that would bring me closer to my dream. That’s the power of the reticular activating system in action. Once you start focusing on what you want, your brain begins to tune into opportunities aligned with those desires. It’s like magic, but it’s really just how our minds are wired.
Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t stop at visualization. You need to pair intention with action. Whether it's setting aside funds, finding a realtor, or even chatting with potential partners interested in the same dream. But this action comes effortlessly when it's backed by a clear, passionate vision.
If you’ve been struggling with feeling unclear about what you want, know that you’re not alone. The first step is acknowledging these mental blocks and questioning your desires honestly and wholeheartedly. Write them down, talk about them, envision them until they start to feel real. And most importantly, don’t shy away from believing that what you want is not just a fantasy, but a future that’s entirely attainable.
Here are three questions you can use to help you gain clarity and boost your belief that what you desire exists as a possibility for YOU. If you’re willing to take action.
Process – 3 Questions to Ask Yourself
What do YOU want? Not what do you think you can get - because we’ve been so conditioned to have real, attainable goals – but you determine if they are attainable through focused action.
Why is this important? This is the thought behind the goal, which then helps to solidify the belief that it is possible to achieve and helps you create a clear plan of action.
What will achieving this goal allow me to do, feel, and have? It is never the thing that you want, it’s what that thing means for you. This is where you tap into the emotions that achieving your goals means because this is what makes your goal more believable. The more senses you can activate when you think of the goal the more you relate to it, which makes it more realistic and therefore achievable. This also opens your mind to the infinite field of possibilities, which is the space in which your goal can become even better than what you had envisioned.
