Discovering the Secrets to Personal and Financial Growth: My Top Book Recommendations

Here it is, a breakdown of some of my all-time favorite books. These are the books that have played a critical role in my personal and financial growth, and I believe they hold the potential to transform your life too.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Kim Thompson, your host of the podcast "Shift Or Get Off the Pot." My journey into the world of sales began years ago, inspired by watching my dad completely transform his career and our family's life through sales.

Growing up, I experienced a lot of moving around—six different schools by the time I was in 6th grade! Despite the constant relocation, there was a pivotal moment nine months into our life in sunny Southern California. My dad received a call to open a new branch in Chicago in February. He surprised everyone by saying "no"!! No to Chicago in February and no to the corporate life! Instead, he switched to a career in sales. Watching my dad conduct 90% of his business on the golf course made me think, "Who wouldn’t want to do that?" So, into sales I went.

Through my career, I’ve learned that personal development and business growth are intrinsically linked. Your business success is often a direct reflection of your inner thoughts, self-value, and beliefs. That’s why today, I’m excited to share with you some of the books that have helped shape my mindset, my approach to business, and my life.

1. The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Waddles

Let's start with this classic. Published in 1910, this book underscores the philosophy that positive thinking, clear intention, and strategic action can shape our economic destinies. Waddles' formula for wealth acquisition is rooted in the idea that everything begins with a thought—a belief that then manifests into reality. I love how he emphasizes gratitude and visualization as tools to enhance this belief, paving the way for actionable steps to achieve wealth.

2. Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker

Eker delves into the concept of a "money blueprint," a sort of internal thermostat regulating our financial success. He believes that understanding and potentially resetting this thermostat is crucial for financial growth. It's an eye-opening read that helps you identify and overcome any limiting beliefs about money.

3. The Abundance Book by John Randolph Price

This compact book offers a spiritual approach to abundance, highlighting that the source of all supply—whether you call it God or the Universe—is infinite. Price includes a forty-day prosperity plan aimed at releasing limiting beliefs and nurturing a mindset of abundance.

4. Happy Pocket Full of Money by David Cameron Gikandi

Gikandi's book is all about appreciating the value within yourself and within others. By being of service to others, you naturally attract wealth. It's a beautifully simple read that reinforces the importance of internal value and external service.

5. The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino

This book is a personal favorite, deeply influential during my early sales career. My dad gave it to me, and it’s not even a book about traditional sales techniques. Instead, it offers life principles that elevate your entire experience. Og Mandino’s story of transformation—from contemplating suicide to becoming a top insurance salesman and bestselling author—is incredibly inspiring. His storytelling keeps you hooked, and the principles are timeless.

Each of these books has contributed to my understanding that personal growth directly impacts financial and business success. They emphasize the importance of a positive, abundant mindset and taking actionable steps toward your goals. Whether it's through cultivating gratitude or shifting your perspective on money, these reads offer invaluable insights for anyone looking to elevate their life experience.

So, there you have it—a snippet of my most cherished books that I believe can help you grow, both personally and financially. Whether you’re a salesperson, a business owner, or simply someone looking to elevate your life, I highly recommend you dive into these books. I promise they'll leave you richer in mind, spirit, and perhaps even in your bank account.

Happy reading, and until next time, keep shifting those paradigms!
